España (Spain)
What all can I say about Spain? Well, never enough! Spain is a large country with a long and vast history. Christopher Columbus, the Catholic Monarchs, the Muslims, paella, jamon, tapas, wine, conquistadors, flamenco, football, seafood, romance, cathedrals, architecture, art……… The list IS endless. Spain has a diverse terrain, from beautiful beaches and golf courses along the Costa del Sol in the south, to almost desert like conditions(dry and HOT in the summer) in the middle, miles of olive vineyards in Andalucía, green mountainous landscapes in the Basque Country and the north, eclectic architecture in Barcelona, and classic buildings in Madrid. The locals are beautiful and I always find myself intrigued with the local fashion and how they interact with one another. Affectionate, kind, relaxed, courteous, and passionate. Basically, if you find anything unattractive about anyone while in Spain, then they aren’t from Spain. Spain is where I found myself on a trip back in 2011 and my lost heart was found and mended by a patient, family-oriented, thoughtful, and gorgeous man, nicknamed Aladdin or the Spaniard. Spain is my second home and it is a place anyone would enjoy. My favourite cities are Madrid, Sevilla, Segovia, Ávila, Salamanca, Granada, Marbella, Donostia (San Sebastián), Barcelona, Toledo….. Well, all destinations in Spain are my favourite because they are all so different. Even on multiple trips to the same city, I see it a little differently and notice new things. The skiing in Sierra Nevada National Parque can rival anywhere in the world. On a clear day, you can see the coast of Africa from the top! Warning if you are scared of heights. One look out and realizing how high you are with no trees to stop you will send your blood pressure skyrocketing and your knees shaking! I’ve never had a problem with finding English speakers in Spain, so no worries if your Spanish isn’t perfect. Although, with any destination, it is polite to know greetings and other important phrases. Transportation is a breeze. Renfe, the metros, and the road system are all very efficient and well maintained. Keeping a little cash on you is a good idea. Most places accept credit cards, but local places prefer cash. Spain is that place where you can walk 10+ miles in a day and still have a lot more to see or you can walk little and just enjoy the scenery and culture around you. Viva España!
